U of A Bands to Hold Three Nights of Concerts

This week the University of Arkansas Bands will wrap up an eventful spring 2024 season with a series of concerts.
The Symphonic Band and 5 O'Clock Concert Band will hold the first concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21. Both bands are under the direction of Chase Jones, assistant director of bands. Andrew Cox, a graduate student in the Masters of Music program with an emphasis in conducting, will be featured as a guest conductor on several pieces throughout the evening.
Under the direction of Associate Director of Bands Jeffrey Summers, the Wind Symphony and 4 O'Clock Concert Band will hold the second concert of the week. Jason Reznicek, also a graduate student in the Masters of Music program with an emphasis in conducting, will also make several appearances as a guest conductor. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 22.
The final concert of the week will be the Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23. The Wind Ensemble is led by Director of Bands Chris Knighten and will feature guest conducting appearances by Jones and Reznicek.
All concerts are free to attend and will be held at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center on the campus of the U of A. Concerts will also be livestreamed at bands.uark.edu.
Participation in concert bands is open to all U of A students, regardless of major. Students interested in auditioning for a band can email bands@uark.edu for more information.
About the University of Arkansas Bands: The University of Arkansas Bands Program, part of the Department of Music in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, began in 1874 and is one of the oldest band programs in the country. The program has seven ensembles including the Razorback Marching Band, Hogwild Band, and five concert bands with over 400 student members representing every college at the university.
